Heart Disease, Stroke & Diabetes

You have to be from another planet not to know that Heart Disease, Strokes and Diabetes are currently running at epidemic levels.  There were approximately 1.3 million people diagnosed with the diabetes last year alone.  While diabetes is considered to be a long term condition, it can be managed through self-care, nutrition and medication.

Acupuncture can put you on the path to a healthier lifestyle by promoting health and well-being.  Since diabetes has an impact on the entire body, doesn’t it make sense to use a therapy that is a whole body approach?  With acupuncture, it is possible to relieve the symptoms and improve pancreatic function and thereby control blood sugar levels.  Because acupuncture is a whole body approach, it works to resolve other imbalances that may be complicating your condition and help with other common symptoms, such as pain.

Heart disease and strokes are directly attributable to stress and anxiety.  With the current economic environment, stress and anxiety are a given, yet, how we deal with stress and anxiety will play an important part of whether or not we put ourselves at risk for disease.  Some stress is considered to be healthy and achieved by appropriate physical exercise, good eating habits, positive thinking, adequate rest, and a natural response to emergency situations.  These stressors help to keep us alert and motivated, and that supports our body’s strength and vitality.

Stress is stored in our bodies and is displayed by high blood pressure, being anxious or nervous, shortness of breath, etc.  We can find ourselves demonstrating anger, sadness or depression, restlessness, tics, procrastination, or listlessness.  We begin to enter the feelings of being overwhelmed and out of control.

What can we do about it?  One of the first actions that we can do is to begin to physically relax.  That can be accomplished with acupuncture or hypnosis.  Acupuncture will begin by putting the body in balance, which initiates the process of releasing stress from the body.  Each time you receive an acupuncture treatment, the effects are enhanced.

Hypnosis is a very direct method of dealing with stress.  Most people know that with hypnosis, the body is in a very relaxed state while the mind remains active.  What you may not know is that by simply taking a deep breath, and holding it for a few seconds, then releasing that breath, you will begin the process of relaxation.  Try it!  Notice that once the breath has been released, your shoulders are more relaxed.  Take 2 or 3 deep breaths, holding each for a few seconds, then exhale and relax.

Doing this little exercise will also give your mind time to
relax and maybe think of something more pleasant, giving you a much needed break.  When our minds are relaxed, our unconscious mind will begin to assist us in finding solutions to our stressful situations.  And, the more that we communicate with our unconscious, the more we begin to utilize our entire mental capacities.

Managing stress is vital to a healthy
lifestyle.  Learn to manage stress through meditation, yoga, exercise, acupuncture or hypnosis.
