Hypnotherapy

What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness and profound comfort. It’s often described as a state of inner focus, where our minds can become detached from their usual concerns.

In our daily life, our thinking and behavior are led mainly by our conscious mind. In our conscious state, our brain thinks and analyzes continuously, and our unconscious mind functions beneath our ordinary awareness. In hypnosis, our consciousness is under rest—a deeply calm, relaxed, and peaceful state. In this state, our unconsciousness can rise up to the level of consciousness and lead our psychological state.

Is hypnosis sleep?
Although hypnosis comes from the Greek word hypnos, for sleep, it is not sleep. It’s an altered state of awareness, just like the kind we experience every day—when we begin to fall asleep, when we’re daydreaming, or when we’re absorbed in a good book, for example. Hypnosis is similar to those states.

What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy uses the altered state of consciousness to draw on the resources of the unconscious mind and achieve therapeutic change. In this special state of awareness, our minds are the most receptive to positive suggestions. We can discover the unconscious resources for healing and self-realization, leveraging our own capabilities to bring about positive change. Hypnotherapy works well for treating anxiety and negative thinking, providing positive suggestions directly to our unconscious mind. Once the suggestion is accepted, it will follow the suggestion automatically, even in the conscious awareness—and help us achieve our desired goal.

Will I lose control?
Hypnosis will not force you to do anything against your will. Instead, it lets you enter into a deep state of relaxation and comfort in which you will become even more aware of your surroundings and what you are doing.

What if I don't come out of hypnosis?
That isn’t possible. Control stays totally with you. You’ll simply return to your normal wakeful state, feeling refreshed and renewed.

Why hypnosis?
It is non-invasive, there are no drugs involved, it is relaxing, and it works! Hypnosis is very effective for changing things like smoking, weight gain/loss, anxiety, insomnia, annoying habits such as biting your fingernails or pulling your hair, phobias, snoring, etc. Hypnosis communicates with the unconscious mind.

What is NLP?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming, NLP, is a rapidly evolving field of discovery about how we think, feel, behave, and communicate. Sometimes called “the art and science of understanding,” NLP offers a set of empowering attitudes and skills to realize your full potential. It covers strategies and techniques that can be applied to virtually any area of your life to build on personal strengths and help achieve what is good and right for you. Solution oriented, it is designed to lead you to the future rather than dwelling on the past.

What does the name 'Neuro-Linguistic Programming' mean?
The name Neuro-Linguistic Programming has been around for nearly 30 years. Neuro refers to how the mind and body interact. Linguistic refers to the insights into a person’s thinking that can be obtained by careful attention to how they use language. Programming refers to the study of the thinking and behavioral patterns, or programs, that people use in their daily lives.

What is a Time Line?
Our past, present, and future align in a linear way to form our Time Line. Our Time Line is our brain’s memory coding—how we encode and store our memories. Everyone’s Time Line is unique. Our encoded and stored memories, deeply embedded in our unconscious, become a key part of our personality. These memories, and the meaning we give to them, drive our present and future.

What is Time Line Therapy™?
Time Line Therapy™ is an effective tool of self-growth, confidence reinforcement, and personal dreams achievement. It helps us realize the root cause of negative emotions and trauma to let our unconscious mind explain and redefine the meaning of past events. By changing the emotions that attach to the event, we can eliminate negative emotions like guilt, anger, and frustration.

Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a complete medical system, originating in China over 5,000 years ago. It applies traditional Chinese medicine theory to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease, and improve well-being. Throughout its long history, acupuncture has gained a solid reputation as an excellent health care resource. It has been endorsed by the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, and the American Medical Association.

How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is based on natural laws and the flow of Chi, or life energy. Chi courses through our bodies in pathways called meridians. In acupuncture, needles are inserted at critical points throughout the body, called acupoints. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the body has more than 360 acupoints, located on the meridian system. Chi flows through these meridians and acupoints to support tissue, muscles, and organs. When the Chi is blocked at the acupoints, body functions can be impaired. Acupuncture treats the underlying causes of Chi distress to manage pain and stimulate healing energies.

Does acupuncture replace medical treatment?
No. Acupuncture is used to complement and supplement your physician’s treatments, not replace them.

What are the benefits of acupuncture?
Since acupuncture promotes the body's natural healing ability, it can correct or improve a variety of health conditions. A valid form of therapy for chemical dependence, it is often used to treat drug, alcohol, and smoking problems. Acupuncture is also a comprehensive system for health maintenance, preventive health care, and peak athletic performance.

What conditions are commonly treated by acupuncture?
Acupuncture can treat a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, knee pain, hand and foot pain, lower back and neck pain, shoulder pain, tennis elbow, sciatica, tendonitis, headaches and migraines, facial paralysis, neuralgia, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome, whiplash, and strokes. It has also been effective in treating anxiety and depression, insomnia, and addictions.

Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture is not painful. Different sensations can be felt, from soreness to warmth and pressure, but the energetic sensation differs from pain. People often comment that the feeling is unfamiliar but relaxing, even pleasant.

What are the needles like?
Acupuncture needles are very fine, about the size of a coarse human hair. FDA-approved, they are solid, sterile, and disposable. Nothing is injected through them. Over the centuries, refined techniques have been developed for needle insertion, enabling the skilled acupuncture practitioner to place a needle with little or no sensation.

How many needles are used in each treatment?
Typically, six to eight needles are used. If two or more symptoms or conditions are treated in one session, ten or more needles may be used. For instance, if you’re suffering from migraines and arthritis, you can be treated for both in each session, instead of treating only one symptom in one session.

How many sessions will I need for treatment?
Everyone is unique. The number of acupuncture treatments required will vary, depending on your condition and health. Your acupuncture practitioner will help you determine a treatment program that’s just right for you.

Does medical insurance cover acupuncture treatment?
It depends on where you live, who your medical insurance company is, and the type of health insurance plan you’re enrolled in. In Maryland, most health insurance companies offer programs that cover acupuncture treatment.
